Compliance Monitoring

Vibration and noise are by-products of almost all activities, be it construction industry, traffic or whatever. Often this compromises our environment by being objectionable or annoying and if severe enough, by causing damage to the surrounding structures and buildings.

Compliance monitoring consists of measuring and documenting vibration and/or noise, using recognized methods to establish the levels that are actually present. In some cases work may be stopped or modified to control or reduce vibration or noise if it is too high.

Most countries have established limits or Standards giving guidance on what has been found to be acceptable levels or severity and methodologies used to measure them. These methodologies vary somewhat depending on the type of vibration or noise being measured.

(see seismic monitoring for standards)

Who needs it? Why is it necesery?

1. Those carrying out activities that generate vibration or noise, need to know if they are generationg excessive levels. Document the fact that they are not, (either they were not or they have taken measures to prevent it). Then if some problem occurs that could be blamed on vibration or noise, they can prove that they were not the cause and thus are not liable.

2. Those subject to excessive vibration and (or) noise may have it monitored to establish and record the levels, in order to have something done about it.

3. Anyone who has to deal with "complaints" where human response is an issue.

4. In order to comply with resource consents.

Who benefits?

1. Those generating vibration or noise cover themselves from any liability by documentiong the actual levels they produced.

2. Those who exposed to excessive vibration or noise, can document and justify having action taken to reduce or prevent the exposure.

3. And of course, Vibration Consultants benefits when we do the work.

Vibration Consultants uses appropriate instrumentation that can work to most recognized international standards and generate documentation demonstrating compliance (or not) directly with specific standards.
